I only recently ran across Cupcake Crusade by way of Urbanspoon. Otherwise this post would have been made last year. It warms our hearts to see 2 of Bakeshop's cupcakes tied for first place on her top 10 list.

The chatter among all of our neighbors lately has been who is better - Bakeshop or Crumbs? I did what any Clarendonian should do: I, with the help of my hubby (a seasoned cupcake aficionado) had a little cupcake battle of my own right here in my living room.
Give me an entire tub of Bakeshop’s frosting, and I won’t feel sick afterwards. It’s fluffy, airy, and sweet. It’s the perfect complement to the perfect cake.

And Bakeshop offers more than just cupcakes. There are cakes, sure, but ladies — who can resist a guy who not only makes his own cupcakes, but can also tempt you with tiny oatmeal cream pies and pecan chocolate chip cookies?
I sampled the red velvet and apple cupcakes, and both were textbook examples of fresh, flavorful, and crumbly cakes, not too dense and not too loose. Stegall’s a guy who knows how to mix batter.
