“I have an insatiable sweet-tooth, so this line of work was a no-brainer.
I love bakeries. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to open a little bakeshop in my hometown. In 2003 I started on the path to make it happen.
Thanks to my mom’s wonderful teaching I was always a good baker, as a youngster I would make layer cakes and eat the whole thing with a glass of milk. My finishing skills were still undeveloped, so I moved to New York and got a job as a cake decorator at Baked, an up and coming bakery in Brooklyn. They were still relatively new so I got a lot of experience in every facet of the bakery game. I learned so much working there, it was one of the best times of my life.
I moved back to Virginia in 2006 to start Bakeshop and change the local sweet scene. I rented a kitchen space and began baking layer cakes and cupcakes for custom orders. Next I started supplying Murky Coffee shops with cupcakes and cookies. Requests for cupcakes and layer cakes started to take off, all from word of mouth. Wedding and event orders started to flow and I got rather busy. All the while I was searching for the perfect spot to open my own little bakery. I wanted to be in a nice neighborhood with a good sense of community. It took me several years, but in 2009 I finally found the perfect spot in Arlington on North Fillmore Street. I’m very happy with it and happy to be here.
In my bakery everything is made from scratch and baked in small batches. Each ingredient is specifically chosen by me. I am obsessed with maintaining that homemade taste.
My menu is made up of classic favorites and new creations, things my mom used to make – cupcakes, cakes, cookies, pies, puddings and other sweets. These classic treats represent America’s delicious baking tradition.
Stop by and say hello, I love what I do and meeting new people"
